Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about creating personalized storybooks with Sweet Story Studio.

How long does it take to make a book?

Most families finish an up-to-20-page storybook in under 15 minutes. You fill out a short form — character name, theme, lesson, art style — and the engine generates a complete story plan and illustrations. Generation time depends on the illustration engine and quality level you choose.

Do I need any design skills?

Not at all. Sweet Story Studio handles story planning, illustration, and page layout automatically. You just pick a theme, an art style, and a lesson or value — the engine does the rest. You can review and regenerate any page before exporting.

Can I print the book?

Yes. Every book can be downloaded as a high-resolution PDF at any page count. To order a printed hardcover, your book needs at least 20 illustrated pages — we'll add title, dedication, and back-matter pages to meet printing requirements automatically.

Is the free plan really free?

Yes — 50 credits per month, no credit card required. That's enough for roughly one full book using the Illustration Lite engine at medium quality. You can upgrade to Plus or Pro anytime for more credits and priority generation.

What age ranges are supported?

Six age bands — the story vocabulary, sentence length, and themes adjust automatically to match:

  • 0–3 months — High-contrast board book feel with simple shapes and bold patterns
  • 3–6 months — Bright colors and familiar objects, very short captions
  • 6–12 months — Simple picture book with one-line sentences and playful illustrations
  • 1–3 years — Classic picture book, short sentences, repetition and rhyme
  • 3–5 years — Full storybook with paragraphs, gentle conflict and resolution
  • 5–7 years — Early reader chapter style with more complex plots and dialogue
Can I add multiple characters?

Yes — up to three characters total. You have one main character plus two optional additional characters. Add siblings, friends, or pets so the whole crew can star in the story together. Each character can have their own name, pronouns, and reference photo.

Are my child's photos safe?

Absolutely. Photos you upload are stored securely and used only for generating your storybook illustrations. They are never shared with other users, displayed publicly, or used for training. You can delete your photos at any time through your account settings. See our Privacy Policy for full details.

What languages are supported?

Story text can be generated in 12 languages: English, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Italian, Chinese (Simplified), Japanese, Korean, Hindi, Arabic, and Russian. Select your preferred language in the Studio form before generating. Image prompts are handled in English for optimal illustration quality.

How does character consistency work?

When you upload a reference photo, our system analyzes your child's facial structure, eye shape, nose, skin tone, hair texture, and body proportions. It builds a character model that carries through every page of the story — same features, same child, regardless of the scene, pose, or art style. This isn't a template with a name swapped in. It's your child's real appearance, rendered consistently from the first page to the last.

Will the character actually look like my child?

Yes — that's our core promise and the thing that sets us apart from every other service. We extract real facial features from your photo: the shape of their eyes, nose, mouth, jawline, skin tone, and hair. The character on the page is recognizably your child, not a pre-drawn cartoon with their name on it. Parents consistently tell us their kids point at the pages and say "that's me!" — because it genuinely is.

How is this different from other personalized book services?

Most personalized storybook platforms work the same way: pick a pre-drawn template character, choose a hair color from a dropdown, type a name, and call it "personalized." The result is a book that could belong to anyone — the child on the page doesn't actually look like your child.

Sweet Story Studio works fundamentally differently. You upload a single photo and our technology captures your child's actual appearance — facial features, skin tone, hair, body type. The character on every page is unmistakably your child. No templates, no generic faces, no clip art. That's why families treat these books as keepsakes, not novelties.

What's the difference between the illustration engines?

Illustration Pro produces higher-fidelity images with more detail, better lighting, and sharper features — ideal for premium keepsake books. It costs more credits per image (4–25 depending on quality level). Illustration Lite is budget-friendly and faster, great for drafts or everyday stories, costing just 1–5 credits per image. Both engines support all art styles.

Can I edit my book after generating it?

Yes. After generation, you can review every page and regenerate any illustration you don't love. You can also adjust the story text before exporting. Each regeneration uses credits based on the engine and quality level, so you have full control over your budget.

How do credits work?

Credits are the currency for generating content. Story plan generation costs 1 credit per book. Each illustration costs credits based on the engine and quality level you choose — from 1 credit (Illustration Lite, low quality) to 25 credits (Illustration Pro, high quality). A typical 20-page book with Illustration Lite at medium quality uses about 41 credits total. See our Pricing page for the full credit cost table.

How long does printing and shipping take?

Books are printed within 3–5 business days via our print partner, Lulu. Delivery typically takes an additional 5–10 business days depending on your location. You'll receive a confirmation email with tracking information once your order ships.

What if my book arrives damaged?

Contact us within 14 days of delivery and we'll reprint and reship your book at no charge. Just email sweetstorystudio@gmail.com with your order number and a photo of the damage.

Can I get a refund?

Digital subscriptions: You can request a full refund within 7 days of subscribing. Printed books: We offer free replacements for manufacturing defects or shipping damage. Because each book is custom-printed, we cannot accept returns for change of mind. Credit packs are non-refundable once used.
